Timmins Mechanical Solutions has finally marked the first company in Northern Ontario to obtain Cyber Secure Canada certification, one of only 20 Canadian companies nationwide to achieve this designation since it’s inception.
As more companies and individuals turn to online activities, whether for business or communications, having cyber secure systems and risk management protocols in place is imperative for a company’s survival among the internet of things.
“We are extremely pleased that we were able to achieve this designation, and primarily become the first company here in Northern Ontario to have our cyber security,” stated Eddy Lamontagne, Vice President. “There isn’t a better feeling right now, knowing that our company’s assets are and will be secure for years to come. The process, albeit lengthy, was an eye-opening experience to mitigate the risk of cyber breaches, something that managers rarely think about and leave to their IT departments or IT service providers.”
“We wish to thank the Northern Ontario Defence Readiness Program (NODRP), Ontario’s North Economic Development Corporation (ONEDC), Watsec Cyber Risk Management, and especially the dedicated efforts of Tony Porritt to accomplish this designation. We know right now we are in a far better position than ever to secure our company’s place in the Defence sector”.
“By working diligently towards gaining the CyberSecure Canada certification, Timmins Mechanical has set itself apart from many of its peers. Through systematic review of policies and procedures, combined with the effective implementation of existing technology, business partners will now have confidence that information shared is handled with the appropriate level of care.” Doug Blakey, CEO, Watsec Cyber Risk Management.
The Northern Ontario Defence Readiness Program (NODRP) was made possible through funding from FedNor and NOHFC agencies, in partnership with the Ontario North Economic Development Corporation (ONEDC), which comprises the five major cities in Northern Ontario: Greater Sudbury, North Bay, Sault Ste. Marie, Timmins and Thunder Bay. This program initiative will:
- Help Northern Ontario companies increase awareness and understanding of defence supply chain opportunities;
- Provide Northern Ontario firms with the expertise required to prepare to participate in this sector;
- Support Northern Ontario firms with defence certification requirement and bid preparation process;
- Provide capacity to source/develop Northern Ontario companies capabilities as required by current contract obligation opportunities;
- Provide ONEDC with the resources required to effectively work in tandem with Northerio Ontario’s designated region representative at FedNor to increase marketing of Northern Ontario capabilities.
- Represent Northern Ontario companies at defence events and to assist them in their business development efforts.
