Sudbury will host an international mining conference this fall, which is expected to attract 300 participants from around the globe.
The Conference of Mining Regions and Cities, being held in conjunction with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), will take place Oct. 8-11 at the Holiday Inn.
It will feature two key themes: partnering for meaningful development in mining regions, and future-proofing regional mineral supply for the energy transition, with a special focus on Indigenous communities in mining regions.
“This conference is a timely discussion amid increasing global attention on ensuring that the growing demand for minerals enhances long-term development for local and Indigenous communities while minimizing environmental impacts,” Andres Sanabria, coordinator of the OECD Mining Regions and Cities Initiative, said in a June 26 news release.
