At MineConnect, we celebrate mining year-round, but It’s officially National Mining Week from May 12th to 18th! This is a good time to take a moment to communicate – outside of our professional circles – how mining benefits everyone.
A logical place to start is minescanada.ca. NRCAN has created a comprehensive site that explores mining in Canada and includes excellent resources about starting or advancing careers in the sector. Perhaps you have someone in your life who may be deciding on their own career path soon and could use a little inspiration.
At CIM Connect in Vancouver earlier this week, during a plenary session, Jason Sangha of Teck Resources drew attention to the fact that conversations need to happen with people who may not be familiar with the mining industry so that they can understand how big of a role mining plays in their everyday lives. He said that, “This ‘disconnect’ that is observed between people’s reliance on mining and the perception of the industry needs to be continually addressed, especially now, as the country participates in the global energy shift.” We couldn’t agree more.
