Canada’s Mining Innovation Commercialization Accelerator (MICA) Network is pleased to announce its third Pan-Canadian Call for Proposals.
MICA is a national innovation ecosystem initiative designed to modernize mining and improve its productivity and environmental performance, strengthen the Canadian mineral supply chain, and increase the domestic and export sales of Canadian innovators.
MICA, headquartered in Sudbury, ON, is a collaborative, national innovation ecosystem hosted by the Centre for Excellence in Mining Innovation (CEMI). It aims to accelerate the development and commercialization of innovative clean technologies in the mining sector, to produce high-impact clean-tech innovations in mining. The MICA program seeks solution providers to address the following four topics: 1) Increase Mine Production Capacity, at Lower Cost; 2) Reduce Mining Energy Consumption and GHG Emissions; 3) Implement Smart, Autonomous Mining Systems; 4) Reduce Environmental Risk and Long-Term Liabilities. The program has already allocated $27.5M and now invites MICA Members to apply for the remaining $2.5M.
“We are very pleased to be able to champion emerging made-in-Canada innovations within the global mining industry through the MICA Program,” says Chamirai Charles Nyabeze, MICA’s Network Director. “The MICA Network is advancing innovations that will enable the global mining industry to produce the minerals and metals necessary for the Energy and Green Transition.”
“The demand for Canadian minerals in new green technologies is growing as we aim to reduce carbon emissions in several major high-demand global industries, like energy, aerospace, and transportation.” adds the Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry. “The call for proposals launched by MICA today will ensure that small and medium-sized businesses are involved in commercializing late stage, high-impact clean technologies, helping Canada seize economic opportunities and thrive in a net-zero future.”
The deadline to apply is March 29, 2024.
