In operation for 13 years, Workforce Inc. is a privately-owned recruitment, staffing, and labour-management firm providing skilled labour, trades, safety, office clerical, and leadership contract employees to both public and private sectors. The company focuses on the following sectors: mining, manufacturing, forest products, construction, transportation and logistics, and government entities, such as educational institutions and municipal governments.
Steve McNeil – General Manager – explained that, “We strategically manage staffing – be it contract, project or permanent placements – to support our clients so they can optimize performance, achieve business objects and maintain a competitive edge in the market.“
The Workforce objective is to provide quality personnel to their clients and qualified employment opportunities to their candidates. They commit to executing their roles in a safe and timely fashion, while upholding the root ethics of good business.
With offices in Sudbury, Sault Ste. Marie, Timmins, and Thunder Bay, Workforce is strategically placed to support the mining industry across the entire Northern and Northwestern regions of Ontario.
In addition to these Northern Ontario communities, there is a Workforce Inc. office in the GTA, as well as our partners HRPP in Newfoundland, and Crag Energy Services in Houston, TX.
Robin Roy, Business Manager of Workforce Timmins, added that, “The most rewarding thing is seeing people who apply themselves and work hard get an opportunity through our group and then eventually gain full-time employment with our clients. I never get tired of seeing that happen.”
The results of their first year in business stand out as memorable because their “small but mighty” founding team successfully supplied upwards of 300 general/skilled labour and safety support contract employees. This afforded their clients the human capital required to carry out their projects successfully.
Mining Industry Human Resources Council, reports that Canada’s mining industry is expected to see a shortage of approximately 100,000 employees by 2030, which is paramount to sustaining Canada’s economic growth. Workforce Inc. plays a part in solving this ongoing challenge for our clients by supplying temporary or contract-based personnel. Our people really are Canada’s #1 resource.
We recognize that the key to bridging this gap as we continue to experience labour shortages is to continue to actively recruit and attract talent to the North, while also continuing to encourage and support historically underrepresented groups in the industry such as women and newcomers, educating and supporting our clients to create a more equitable, diverse, and inclusive industry.
Workforce Inc. regularly attends community-based events, one we’d like to highlight being the Jill of All Trades event hosted by Cambrian College last fall. This initiative encourages girls aged 12 to 17 to consider a career in the skilled trades by fostering a better understanding and appreciation for skilled trades in young women. Many members of our group volunteer their time by serving on boards to support and give back to the industry, such as Women in Mining and MineConnect.
During our many years in business, Workforce has supported local charitable organizations with donations collected by its employees for the Sudbury Women’s Centre and United Way, as well as fundraising for different community initiatives to support the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the YMCA’s Camp for Kids initiative, local food banks, and finally participating as a corporate partner of the Canadian Blood Services with frequent group plasma donations.
“We initially joined MineConnect to stay informed on the quickly evolving mining industry, and to connect with other like-minded mining professionals and businesses. What we quickly found is that MineConnect has their finger on the pulse and has an unwavering commitment to its members and their interests,” recounted Samantha Kavanaugh, Marketing and Communications Manager for all branches of Workforce, adding that, “The events we attend hosted by MineConnect have proven to be informative with many valuable connections made.”
