MS Filter Systems Inc. designs and supplies drinking water systems for small communities and remote work sites.
MS Filter Systems was founded in 2001 to deliver practical and sustainable water treatment solutions to meet the unique needs and challenges of small and remote communities. The Multi-Stage Filtration process was developed with advisory input from some of North America’s leading experts in slow sand filtration. Initial pilot studies began in 1993 with full scale installations installed as early as 1995. The first ozone/roughing filter/slow sand installation was commissioned in 1998. Our decades of experience and more than 40 water treatment plants installed across Canada have made us the preeminent choice for this technology.
The MS Filter System can be customized to flow capacities between 20 and 2000 cubic meters per day. The fundamentals of slow sand filtration are reliable, easy to operate, and require no added chemicals, no chemical delivery, and no consumables. With no moving parts in the filter, operator time is a fraction of that with other systems and limited to daily monitoring, occasional sampling, and filter cleaning every 2-6 months. With low energy consumption and no chemical wastewater produced, the MS Filter System has the smallest carbon footprint of any water treatment technology.
These inherent qualities have made our system the obvious solution to the drinking water shortfalls in small communities and remote locations. Our system has been instrumental in lifting several long-standing boil water advisories, and subsequently laying the bedrock for economic development and growth in these communities.
