Two Canadian gold producers reportedly are making headway in the construction of a pair of mine projects outside Red Lake and Dubreuilville.
Kinross Gold delivered an update on the progress made at its Great Bear mine project in northwestern Ontario in its first-quarter results on April 29.
Located 24 kilometres southeast of Red Lake, Great Bear will be a massive, high-grade open-pit and underground mine when it goes into production in 2029. Major construction begins in 2027.
The Toronto gold company reported the current construction of an advanced exploration portal (known as the AEX) at the future Red Lake mine is 90 per cent complete.
The purpose of the AEX is to establish an underground drilling platform to get a better picture of the gold resources at depth, ahead of any construction of the underground mine.
