North Bay, ON – The CIM Northern Gateway Branch is proud to unveil the official “100 Years of Mining” brand, marking a milestone celebration of North Bay’s contributions to the global mining industry, in honour of our centennial year. This brand will anchor a city-wide celebration, featuring immersive exhibits, storytelling, and interactive events.
Though North Bay does not host active mines, the city has long been a global leader in mining supply, services, and technology. The celebration aims to educate, connect, and inspire, focusing on the city’s century-long mining contributions.
“The unveiling of this brand kicks off an exciting celebration,” says Rachel Cranford, Subcommittee Chair. “Mining has shaped our city, and we aim to honour those contributions while looking ahead to future innovation.”
The “100 Years of Mining in North Bay” logo is bold and modern design. The hexagonal zeros symbolize mining’s structural integrity and progress. Inside the first hexagon, organic shapes in golden yellow, copper, and olive green represent earth layers and resources, while subtly resembling a drill bit. The second hexagon connects, signifying mining’s evolution, while emphasizing forward motion and innovation. The logo blends strength, history, and future vision into a memorable identity for the centennial celebration.
The celebration includes a two-day immersive exhibit from Friday, May 30 to Saturday, May 31, 2025. It will feature locally designed and manufactured mining equipment, innovations, and technology, spread along the North Bay waterfront. The public is invited to explore the exhibits via a self-guided walking tour.
Additional events include a social evening aboard the Chief Commanda II, bringing together industry leaders and the community. The celebration will also honour local mentors and innovators who have shaped mining in North Bay, with opportunities for the community to nominate and share their stories.
