The CanExport SMEs program is now accepting applications for the 2025-2026 fiscal year. Eligible businesses can receive up to $50,000, covering 50% of costs for expanding into new international markets. All project expenses must be incurred between April 1, 2025, and March 31, 2026.
A new Applicant’s Guide has been released with updated program requirements. Businesses must carefully follow the guide when submitting applications, as key changes have been introduced to improve efficiency and better serve Canadian companies.
Notable program changes include a greater focus on export diversification—businesses can target either the United States or other international markets, but not both. Additionally, eligibility criteria for expenses have been revised, and applicants must now submit articles of incorporation along with specific tax documents for Quebec-based businesses (GST 34 return or FP-500-V).
To qualify, businesses must:
- Be established in Canada and for-profit
- Be an incorporated entity, LLP, or cooperative
- Have an active CRA business number
- Employ 1 to 500 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees
- Declare $100,000 to $100 million in annual revenue in Canada
Funding supports various export-related activities, such as travel to foreign markets, participation in trade shows, market intelligence gathering, intellectual property protection, and expert legal/business advice. These initiatives help businesses expand beyond Canada and unlock global growth opportunities.
