The 15th Annual Mushkegowuk Cup Hockey Tournament was held in Timmins earlier this month and marked another successful year, thanks in part to the support of SMS Equipment as a Diamond Sponsor. Much more than just a sporting event, “Mush Cup” has evolved into a symbol of community engagement and empowerment for Indigenous youth across Northern Ontario and Quebec.
As Timmins’ largest sporting event, the Mushkegowuk Cup brought together a record-breaking 56 First Nation youth hockey teams. The weekend was unforgettable — filled with competition, camaraderie, and celebration.

The tournament’s impact extended far beyond the ice, with an estimated $2 million contribution to the local economy with over 5,000 attendees. Proceeds from the event itself are directed towards future Indigenous youth initiatives, events, and funding, creating a lasting positive impact.
