Over 250 guests recently participated in celebrations for OCP’s 50 years as a supplier of concrete products, supplies and services to the northern Ontario mining and construction communities. The event coincided with the 86th birthday of its founder and President, Dick Cousineau. Joining the celebrations were members of Dick’s family including wife, Gemma, son and Secretary-Treasurer / Operations Manager Richard and grandsons Nico and Sebastien (also company employees).
On hand to help celebrate the day were some of Dick’s earliest and current customers and friends including his first customer, Ron Belanger, President/Founder of Belanger Construction.
Dick Cousineau started the business 1974 under the name Ontario Concrete Pumping. This coincided with the day of his 36th birthday. Although concrete pumping was his first service, he quickly began selling construction materials to the same clients that he was already pumping concrete for. 50 years later, Ontario Concrete Pumping has become OCP Construction Supplies and Cousineau Concrete Pumping (not in one step).
Currently, the two companies employ approximately 70 people in four cities in Northeastern Ontario including Sudbury, Timmins North Bay, and Sault Ste. Marie. Plans are now underway to open a location in Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec.
One of the day’s highlights was the surprise “gift” of a fully restored 1969 Mercedes truck with a 1971 Schwing concrete pump identical to the second such vehicle utilized by the company in its early days.
To many of those on hand, the day was one of both celebration and a rekindling of relationships, but even more important, a tribute to a man who through hard work, persistence and dedication to his customers has built a company with a reputation for product quality and customer service.
MineConnect congratulates Dick and the OCP team on this wonderful milestone!
