The historic Sudbury building finally has an owner who appears ready to do something with it.
“There’s hope,” said Matte, an immediate neighbour of 162 Mackenzie St., adding that the new owners have already started replacing doors and planting trees.
“He has a lot of energy,” she said of Minewise Technology Ltd. managing director James Henderson. “The way he’s reached out to the community, it’s great. A good start.”
Henderson hosted the community at 40 Eyre St., an old church his company also owns and was originally slated to house Minewise operations. That was, until 162 Mackenzie St. came up for sale a couple of years ago. He’s now looking at using 40 Eyre St. as an events venue.
For Minewise to operate in 162 Mackenzie St., they need the city to rezone it for light-industrial uses, which triggered concern among area residents.
