FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SUDBURY, ON — MineConnect, Ontario’s mining supply and services association, applauds the Government of Ontario for introducing the Protect Ontario by Unleashing Our Economy Act, 2025. This legislation is a strong step toward reducing red tape, streamlining permitting, and improving coordination between federal and provincial regulatory processes.
While built on important safeguards, Ontario’s permitting system has become increasingly complex, creating delays that impact not only project developers but also the mining supply and services sector. When projects stall, so do opportunities for the companies that provide essential equipment, technology, engineering, and skilled trades.
By addressing these challenges, the Act creates a more efficient and predictable business environment that supports investment, job creation, and long-term industry growth. For MineConnect members, this means greater stability and clearer pathways to participate in Ontario’s resource development future.
The legislation also advances the creation of economic zones—an initiative with strong potential to unlock growth in regions like Northern Ontario. These zones will attract investment, support local industry, and accelerate infrastructure development.
We also commend the Government of Ontario for affirming that no changes will be made to the important duty to consult with Indigenous communities. This ensures that consultation continues to be a cornerstone of responsible resource development.
“This legislation shows leadership in tackling long-standing barriers to growth,” said Marla Tremblay, Executive Director of MineConnect. “It will help ensure that the entire mining sector—including the vital supply and services network—can grow, compete, and succeed.”
