For more than 30 years, Sudbury-based Patrick Mechanical Ltd. (PML) has been the leading company in Northern Ontario for large-scale construction, contracting and industrial projects for governments, corporations, and industries across the province.
Founded by Doug Patrick in 1989, PML has grown to include a team of over 125 highly qualified employees made up of engineers, tradespeople, and professionals who collaborate to ensure that all projects undertaken are approached, and completed, using the highest levels of expertise and workmanship.
The company is regarded as a leader in specialized fields and trades ranging from mechanical contracting, custom steel fabrication, plumbing, heating, and process piping to millwrighting and related services.
In addition to its home base of Sudbury, PML also has teams continuously working in Sault St. Marie, Timmins, Elliot Lake, Blind River, Manitoulin Island, Gogama, Cochrane, and Thunder Bay; as well as many communities in between.
PML has worked with mining start-ups, junior mining companies, and global giants in the region and worldwide. They are focused on helping them dig deeper, process ore, and refine above ground. The bedrock of their effort is supporting mining and other industrial partners.
PML’s skilled workforce is ready to meet the exacting needs of modern mining. Services include: backflow prevention, certification and testing; plumbing; mechanical design build; heating and cooling; mechanical project supervision; water balancing; trouble shooting process systems; fire protection; valve repair; process equipment assembly; boiler installation/repair; buried gas services (natural and propane); millwright and rigging services; pump removal, repair and replacement; oxygen service cleaning; conveyor installation and maintenance design; piping and equipment identification/labeling, and building maintenance.
One notable recent project was Vale’s Coleman Mine – Refrigeration and Air-Cooling System project. PML and their affiliate group of companies (Patrick Sprack Ltd., One Source Home Services, Greater City Concrete Works Ltd., Velco Machining, Legend Mining Contracting, Bisschops Industries and S2 Metal Fabricators Ltd.) performed complete installations of civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical plant items on site. Installed in 2020, and located at the McCreedy East Fresh Air Raise in Levack, Ontario. The project required over 32,000 personnel hours on site. Their team of companies worked with client BBE Consulting Canada to install it – the first plant of its kind in Canada. Despite the challenges posed to the project due to the global pandemic, the project’s critical milestones were achieved on schedule and without compromising project safety or quality of the deliverables.
With new mines opening across Northern Ontario PML is in an ideal position to provide their expertise to new and existing clients.
Giving back to the community is important to Patrick Mechanical. They support several community organizations such as the Walden Mountain Bike Club, Health Sciences North, and recently held the Patrick Group of Companies’ inaugural Golf Tournament which raised over $8,000 for NEO Kids. Slated to become an annual event, the golf tournament provides PML with an opportunity to network and strengthen bonds with their affiliate companies while supporting a great local cause. All companies within the Patrick Group of Companies participated in the tournament.
