Tom DiFrancesco, General Manager – B&D Manufacturing Ltd.
Founded in 1980, B&D Manufacturing is a dynamic Canadian company that designs, manufactures and distributes innovative mining products and technologies to increase production and improve safety for industries globally. Originally established as the manufacturer of its globally recognized Portable Align Boring Machines, the company has expanded to become one of the only manufacturers marketing support equipment for both large haul trucks and heavy shovels at surface operations, as well as heavy equipment operating in underground mining projects. B&D also has a full line of maintenance service equipment designed to support Large Mining Haul Trucks. This includes its Multi Handler as well as the world’s first remote-control jack, the EJ200 Evolution Jack, invented in 2006 to lift the globe’s largest mining haul trucks. The company’s line also includes other products and accessories including work platforms, stairs, HD Stands, Wheel chocks, Oil drip Carts, Belly Pan removal tools and more. In addition to its OEM product line, it supports a variety of clients with custom design, fabrication and manufacturing, on-site repair and rebuild services.
Based in Sudbury, B & D Manufacturing Ltd. has evolved into a manufacturing business focused on supporting a global dealer network in Canada, USA, Mexico, Columbia, Chile, Peru, Brazil, South Africa, Europe, China and Australia. Recently they were commissioned to develop underground lunchroom – lavatory trailers for a mine in Mexico. As with its original inventions, the remote control jacking system, multi-handler and attachments designed for Cat & Komatsu Large Mining Haul Trucks, the company hopes to find an equally strong export market for this newest addition to its product line.
B&D sees its future opportunities both in the export market and by also capitalizing on new mine activity that is currently happening domestically.
However it has not forgotten its roots as it continues to support many community groups and programs through encouraging employee volunteerism and charity work as well as engaging in local philanthropy.
According to DiFrancesco, the company’s mission is very clear; “Our customers trust us to provide quality products and a high level of service. Our goal is to build customer relationships the same way we build products – for the long haul”.
He further stated; “We joined MineConnect to network with our local customer base and to support the Sudbury and area mining cluster”.
Editor’s Note: As the previous owner of an equipment rental company, Tom originally joined MineConnect’s predecessor, SAMSSA over 25 years ago as its second founding member. We wish to thank him for his continued leadership and commitment to this organization and Northern Ontario’s mining supply and services sector.
