Mattagami First Nation and Dumas Contracting have launched a new joint venture, Aki Dumas Inc., to advance Indigenous participation and employment in the mining sector.
Mattagami Aki — the economic development arm of Mattagami First Nation — made the announcement in an Oct. 28 online post.
“Aki Dumas unites Dumas’ extensive experience in underground mine contracting with Mattagami Aki’s commitment to community-driven and sustainable development,” Mattagami Aki said in the post.
“This partnership represents our shared goal of advancing Indigenous participation in the mining sector while creating meaningful employment and long-term economic opportunities for our Nation.
“Together, we’re building a stronger, more sustainable future — above and below the surface.”
The launch follows the signing of an agreement between the community and the mine contractor in early June during the Canadian Mining Expo in Timmins.
