Preventing workplace fatigue among miners, tracking how frogs and wetlands recover after mining damage, and using artificial intelligence to detect hazardous underground conditions are among the projects receiving support through a new round of industry funding at Laurentian University.
The funding comes from the IAMGOLD President’s Innovation Fund for Strategic Investment, which supports innovation in mineral resources, mining education and research. Laurentian and IAMGOLD did not say how much money was provided.
The investment will help turn student and faculty research ideas into practical projects while strengthening Laurentian’s position as a leader in mining-focused education and research.
“This year’s selected initiatives highlight the practical, hands-on research being driven by Laurentian students and their faculty mentors,” the university said in a release. “Six projects were selected to receive funding based on their projected project budgets. These projects further Laurentian University’s standing as Canada’s Mining University.
