The Board of Governors of Cambrian College is pleased to announce that after a comprehensive nationwide search process, Kristine Morrissey has been selected as the next President of Cambrian College.
Morrissey begins her new role on May 15, 2023.
Morrissey comes to the position with a wealth of experience in the college sector, having worked at Cambrian College since January 2011. For the last nine years, she has served as part of the College’s senior leadership team with an evolving portfolio, most recently as the Vice President, Finance, Administration, International and Research. Her sector-wide leadership experience is extensive as she is Past Chair of the Administrative Services Coordinating Committee, sits on the Coordinating Committee for Vice Presidents of International, is a member of the College’s and Institutes Canada (CICan) Audit Committee and is Treasurer of the College Employer Council. She also currently serves as a faculty member of CICan’s Leadership Academy, training Canada’s next generation of post-secondary executives.
“The Board of Governors was unanimous in its decision to select Kristine following a rigorous search process. It is clear that her financial expertise, commitment to teaching and learning, business background, sector knowledge and passion for Cambrian make her the ideal person to lead Cambrian in the next chapter of our history,” says Jeff Smith, Chair, Board of Governors, Cambrian College.
“I am incredibly inspired, humbled and excited to be chosen as the next leader for Cambrian College,” says Kristine Morrissey. “We have a strong team and a dynamic strategic plan in place, and I am proud of what we have accomplished as an institution. I look forward to building on those successes and to ensuring that we continue to serve the interests of our students, faculty, staff and partners.”
During her tenure, Morrissey led the college in achieving operating surpluses in an environment of declining domestic enrolment, grew its international learners from 500 to over 2100 and led applied research to a perennial top-50 national ranking. Prior to her time at Cambrian College, Morrissey was a Senior Manager, Assurance at KPMG where she was responsible for managing client relationships and audit processes for healthcare and education clients.
Morrissey earned her Honours Bachelor of Commerce Degree from Laurentian University and received her Chartered Accountant designation from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario. She has also completed a master’s certificate in Risk Management from the Schulich Executive Education Centre. Kristine has also been active in the local community, serving on the Audit Committee and Board of the Greater Sudbury Chamber of Commerce, the Board of the Sudbury Food Bank, and the Art of Desserts Fundraising Committee.
Morrissey replaces Bill Best, who departed Cambrian College in January to assume a role at the University of New Brunswick and be closer to ailing family.
“The Board is also grateful to Shawn Poland, Vice President, External Partnerships and Strategic Recruitment, who served as Interim President for the last five months while the College navigated the presidential search,” furthered Smith. “We haven’t missed a beat.”
