The Government of Canada has introduced the Regional Tariff Response Initiative (RTRI), a new program designed to help small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) impacted by tariffs boost productivity, diversify markets, and strengthen domestic supply chains. Delivered by FedNor and Canada’s Regional Development Agencies, RTRI provides non-repayable contributions of up to $1 million and repayable contributions for larger projects.
Eligible businesses include incorporated SMEs operating in Northern Ontario with at least five employees and a demonstrated impact from tariffs. Priority sectors include mining, critical minerals, steel, automotive, forestry, clean technology, bioeconomy, and agriculture.
Funding supports activities such as digitization, automation, supply chain optimization, market expansion, and research or reshoring initiatives. Projects must be completed between March 21, 2025 and March 31, 2028.
