Several funding programs are currently accepting applications from Ontario small and medium-sized businesses:
FedNor Regional Tariff Response Initiative
Continuous intake; projects must be completed by March 31, 2028
Northern Ontario SMEs affected by tariffs or trade disruptions may qualify for non-repayable funding covering up to 50% of eligible costs, to a maximum of $1 million. Eligible projects can include equipment, automation, market diversification and supply-chain improvements.
Ontario Together Trade Fund
Continuous intake; no closing date currently listed
Ontario businesses affected by U.S. tariffs can seek support for market diversification, manufacturing expansion, new technology and supply-chain projects. Funding may be provided as a grant, loan or combination, covering up to 75% of eligible costs to a maximum of $5 million.
NOHFC Invest North – Grow
Next deadline: October 31, 2026
Existing Northern Ontario businesses can apply for a conditional contribution covering up to 20% of eligible expansion costs, to a maximum of $400,000. Eligible expenses include equipment, construction, leasehold improvements, IT, training and marketing for new products or initiatives.
FedNor Manufacturing Operational Assessments
Continuous intake; no fixed closing date listed
Established Northern Ontario manufacturers can receive non-repayable funding covering up to 50% of an operational assessment, to a maximum of $15,000. Assessments can address productivity, process improvements, quality systems, energy efficiency, information systems and market readiness.
EDC Trade Impact Program
Ongoing intake
Canadian exporters, companies supplying exporters and businesses affected by trade uncertainty can access enhanced financing, working-capital support, credit insurance and foreign-exchange solutions. EDC expanded the program on September 1st to make support available to more SMEs.
Rural Ontario Development Program
Deadline: October 1, 2026
Rural brick-and-mortar businesses with 1–20 employees can receive up to $10,000, covering 35% of eligible costs for projects that support business growth, competitiveness and job creation or retention.
