The Northern Ontario Defence Opportunities (NODO) Program is helping small and medium-sized enterprises build the capacity needed to serve Canada’s defence industry. Eligible businesses may receive a non-repayable contribution covering up to 75% of eligible project costs, to a maximum of $50,000, to support activities such as industry certifications, supplier qualification, market exposure, equipment and technology upgrades, and market diversification.
The program is open to incorporated, for-profit businesses with 499 employees or fewer that actively operate in Northern Ontario. Applicants must be established beyond the exploratory stage, demonstrate a clear value proposition for the defence sector, and provide evidence of industry readiness. Eligible businesses may operate in areas such as advanced manufacturing, aerospace and space technology, artificial intelligence, secure cloud and quantum computing, sensors, cybersecurity, data-driven systems, in-service support, or supply-chain services.
Funding will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis until available funds are exhausted. Approved projects must be completed within six months of funding approval or by February 2028, whichever comes first. Not-for-profit organizations, charities, educational institutions and public-sector organizations are not eligible.
