The federal government is investing up to $20 million in Foran Mining Corporation’s McIlvenna Bay mine project in Saskatchewan, part of its effort to advance Canada’s critical minerals sector supply chain.
Jonathan Wilkinson, minister of energy and natural resources, announced the conditional funding through the Critical Minerals Infrastructure Fund.
The funding will support infrastructure development, including a hydro transmission line, an on-site substation and electric vehicle charging stations, aiming to fully electrify the mine. These upgrades will enable McIlvenna Bay to pursue carbon-neutral copper production, strengthening Saskatchewan’s status as a leading mining hub.
“We are proud to advance the McIlvenna Bay project with the support of the Government of Canada,” said Dan Myerson, CEO and executive chairman of Foran. “This funding not only supports sustainable resource development but also drives economic growth, job creation and responsible mining practices in Saskatchewan.”
