First Mining Gold is promising thousands of construction and mining jobs to build and run its proposed open-pit gold and silver mine project in northwestern Ontario that could break ground late next year.
The Vancouver mine builder said its Springpole mine project can deliver 3,340 direct and indirect jobs in each year of construction and 5,910 jobs during each year of operations for a total of over 67,000 person-years of employment.
Those were some of the kernels of information from a socioeconomic analysis commissioned by the company and released on Jan. 7.
First Mining Gold didn’t release the entire report for public consumption, but explained that the document covers the socioeconomic impact during the construction, operations and mine closure phases of the project.
Springpole is 110 kilometres northeast of Red Lake.
For government coffers, Springpole will serve up more than $7 billion in tax revenue and contribute $15 billion to the country’s gross domestic product.
