The federal government is providing nearly $1 million to help Northern Ontario businesses compete in the defence industry.
Announced April 21, the funding of $976,650 will go to the Business Centre Nipissing Parry Sound Inc. toward the launch of the Northern Ontario Defence Opportunities Project (NODOP), which the federal government is calling a “priority project.”
Under the initiative, eligible Northern Ontario companies can receive up to $50,000 toward things like obtaining specialized certifications, consultant services related to cybersecurity, controlled goods compliance, and quality assurance.
It can also help offset costs associated with ISO standards, equipment upgrades and market‑entry or diversification initiatives, including participation in technology demonstrations and industry showcases.
“Canada’s defence sector is growing exponentially and this strong show of support from FedNor will ensure Northern Ontario business can capitalize on the tremendous opportunity its expansion creates,” Jennifer Nickerson, executive director of the Business Centre Nipissing Parry Sound, said in a news release.
