Equinox Gold and Orla Mining have finalized their merger to create a new senior mining company in northwestern Ontario and Canada.
The US$18.5-billion business combination, first announced in May, was approved by the British Columbia Supreme Court on July 28.
It creates a combined company anchored by the Valentine mine in Newfoundland and two operations in northwestern Ontario, Greenstone Gold, outside Geraldton, and the remote Musselwhite mine, 500 kilometres north of Thunder Bay.
This beefier version of Equinox will be capable of producing more than 1.1 million ounces of gold annually with the potential to boost that to more than 1.9 million ounces through project growth. It will trade under symbol of EQX on the TSX and NYSE-A.
A July 31 joint news release didn’t delve into any upcoming operational changes, but did announce some organizational shifting of seats.
