Cambrian College is this year’s recipient of an award from Ontario’s Minister of Colleges and Universities.
The Honourable Jill Dunlop presented her Minister’s Award of Excellence for
Innovation and Entrepreneurship to Cambrian R&D at a ceremony in Toronto.
Accepting the award on behalf of Cambrian College were Kristine Morrissey,
Cambrian’s Vice-President of Finance, Administration, and International, and
Dr. Mike Commito, Director of Cambrian R&D, the Applied Research division
of the college.
“This award is the result of an enormous amount of collaboration, innovation
and teamwork among all of the great minds at Cambrian R&D and the
amazing industry partners we work with in Sudbury,” says Kristine Morrissey. “Cambrian R&D is a key player in the research and innovation ecosystem that is growing in Sudbury, particularly in the mining sector, and it’s helping to attract talent and investment to our city.
The Minister’s Award of Excellence recognizes the exceptional performance of faculty, staff and graduate students from colleges, universities, private career colleges and Indigenous Institutes across Ontario. The category of Innovation and Entrepreneurship celebrates outstanding achievement in working with industry to drive economic development.
“At Cambrian R&D we’ve got great bench strength and today that team of
staff and students was recognized for the groundbreaking work we’re getting
done with our industry partners in Sudbury,” says Mike Commito, Director of
Applied Research. “For more than a decade we’ve been ranked among the
best colleges across Canada for research, and this year we were fourth
among medium-sized colleges for the number of paid student researchers.
Being named a winner of the Minister’s Award for Excellence is just further
acknowledgment that we are punching above our weight.”
